Loss of appetite is a transient symptom in young children. Mostly it develop in the children as they start crawling and use to put everything in mouth. Both appetite stimulating and appetite suppressing neuropeptides are found in hypothalamus. Poor weight gain or loss of appetite is associated with chronic illness, organic or psychogenic.
